I love the way these look. I also like the idea of them being solar powered. Less batteries the better. Basically we have an old school jar that has been equipped with a blue or yellow light and a mini solar panel to charge the lamp.
Not only is the jar waterproof but the frosting on the jar creates a nice glow from the light inside and they are equipped with a light sensor as well so the only come on when it gets dark.

These tiny little wind-up lights look pretty neat. I know batteries are good and in these LED lights they last forever but what if that little battery goes dead? I know I don’t keep the little ones on hand. I have a drawer full of A’ AA’ and even D’ batteries but I don’t have any of the little tiny flat ones. This is why I think this little tiny crank light would be handy to have. Plus at only $8 a pop and a bunch of colors to choose from you can’t go wrong really.

One of the latest in online video sites Current.com has offered up a new gem with a Bill Gates vs Steve Jobs (Microsoft vs Apple) battle to the death, well sort of.
Video after the break or click here and watch it at Current.com:

This new search engine is very heavy on the ram. It’s very heavy on the graphics and don’t even click on the link if you don’t have broadband. That being said I think it’s a great way to surf the web. If it’s something other than text your looking for let’s say music, images, videos, maps and that sort of thing this is a great way to find it.
Viewzi has basically developed a bunch of different tools that utilizes already existing data sources and pulls them into a swiss army knife of an application. You pretty much have to try it out for yourself and see.

I found this great little video a few years ago and forgot to bookmark the page but I finally found it again and thought I’d share it. It’s a very creative video about making a more comfortable working environment. It’s very well made and very entertaining. It’s about 40 minutes long so you should set aside some time if you’d like to watch the whole thing.
The video was made by a company called Belief who are a design firm who do all sorts of design. The video is peppered with clips of their work which is top notch. If your bored or looking for some inspirational tips this is video you should seriously watch.

Rest in peace Rufus. George Carlin died today at the age of 71 from heart failure. He was a comedy genius and said the things we were all afraid to say. He truly inspired me and inspired be to question my perceived reality. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about something George said.
If I ever want to put a smile on my face, I just listen to George and for some reason I seem to have a new outlook on life. Thank you George. You will be greatly missed.
I have decided to put a list of all my favorites from George Carlin.
More of my favorites after the break.

I don’t normally write about football (soccer) but I felt this was worthy of sharing. Since Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are all out of the European Cup we have all been forced to pick another European country to support at this years European Cup. I decided to support Spain since it’s the home of the new number one Liverpool striker Fernando Torres. I assumed other Liverpool fans might do the same but never on this scale. It’s a great ad I seen last night while watching Spain beat Italy.
Joshua Heineman has some great animated GIF’s that are taken from old photos that were taken with cameras that had two lenses. The original effect was to be used with a special viewer that allowed the person viewing the images to see them with a special viewer which had one for each eye. This gave the photos a 3D feel to them and were very effective. Josh’s solution is simple but effective. The two images are placed into a two frame GIF and played over and over repeatedly. They look a bit jerky at first the effect is clearly visible.
I read a story once by Piers Anthony in which the main character wore a snake ring he called “sning” that would squeeze once for yes and twice for no to any question he would ask. Ever since reading about the ring I have always be fascinated with any sort of ring that did more than just look good. These rings are not quite the soothsayer “sning” was but they could tell you things you don’t know.
Each of these rings is fitted with a microphone and your meant to wear one ring on each finger. The reason is because the ring will listen to your environment and warn you of any danger or situation that may require your attention. These situation may include an on coming car or perhaps someone calling your name. I am assuming these are meant to be used by people who can hear or just can’t hear very well. I love it that people are coming up with ideas to make something we wear more functional.
Here is a link for more information. It’s only a prototype at the moment but who knows we could see people wearing these some day.
